If your dental qualifications are not from an Australian or New Zealand University, you will need to pass a qualification assessment from the Australian Dental Council
(ADC) before you can register to practise dentistry. (Also refer to the AHPRA website

Dentists with eligible qualifications from UK, Republic of Ireland and Canada
You are eligible to register to practise dentistry in Australia without sitting the ADC exams if you:
- Hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery/B Dent or Bachelor of Dental Science from
a university in Ireland or the United Kingdom. - Hold a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
from a university in Canada.

Registration will not be granted to a foreign graduate until he or she is a resident of Victoria and holds a visa approved for employment.

Australian Dental Council (ADC) examinations
The ADC assesses overseas educated dentists to enable them to obtain registration in Australia. Go to the ADC website to find out if you are eligible to undertake the ADC examination

The examination must be taken in order of the following 3 parts:
- Occupational English Test (OET)
- Preliminary Examination (Multiple choice questions and short answer questions)
- Final Examination (Clinical)
Dental Board of Australia (known as AHPRA)
The Dental Board of Australia grants registration to students to enable them to complete their course of study in dental care. Students of OTC will need to apply for temporary registration once accepted into the program. Assistance with this process will be given through the OTC office.
