
Short programs have been designed by Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) to assist overseas educated dentists to refresh knowledge and skills before sitting the ADC final examination.
The programs are also appropriate for overseas trained dentists who have sat the ADC final examination but were unsuccessful, or who have been granted a Supplementary Examination.

This program includes OPTECH exercises (amalgam, composite, inlays and onlays, veneers, crown and bridge) and endodontic exercises on extracted teeth mounted in a plaster block.
OPTECH sessions will be scheduled in the evening at 5.30pm-8.30pm. Programs held in January, June and November will most likely be scheduled during the day from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4.30pm (two sessions per day).
The fee of $110 applies per OPTECH session. We do not accept candidates for less than five sessions.
2010 program dates
- 18 – 22 January: 10 day sessions (morning and afternoon)
- 15 – 26 February: 10 evening sessions
- 15 – 26 March: 10 evening sessions
- 12 – 23 April: 10 evening sessions
- 17 – 28 May: 10 evening sessions
Fee: $1,560
Includes:
- 10 OPTECH sessions (charged at $110 per session) which covers the use of the clinic chair, handpieces, hand instruments and dental mannequin
- $200.00 Columbia model with one set of plastic teeth
- $260.00 for equipment and materials kit
- $50 material levy if you do not purchase the above kit and wish to use limited materials only, such as putty, additional films, etc.
This program includes preclinical and clinical sessions on:
- restorative dentistry including direct and indirect restorations and endodontics (preclinical)
- radiology (preclinical and clinical sessions)
- exodontia (clinical sessions )
- selected tutorial topics such as removable prosthodontics, periodontics, exodontia, paedodontics and oral pathology.

Fee: $5,000 plus $165 for Specific Registration (payable to Dental Practice Board of Victoria), plus fees associated with Working with Children Check and Police check if applicable.
Note: Candidates attending clinical sessions and treating patients must hold current temporary registration. The required forms will be provided by the OTC office. Candidates are responsible for sending all relevant document and fees directly to the Board. This process takes at least two weeks.
These individually tailored programs and sessions are for candidates who have already sat the Australian Dental Council final examination and were granted Supplementary examination in one discipline.
Fees: Depend on individual requirements and availability of the sessions. Applicants should contact the OTC office to discuss requirements.
Please note that programs and fees are subject to change and applicants should check with the OTC Office in relation to programs offered at the time of application.
As these short programs are designed to assist in preparing for the ADC exam, we require participants to:
- hold a current ADC reference number and be eligible to sit the clinical examination.
- have passed the OET (Occupational English Test).
- have passed the ADC MCQ Preliminary examination.
- have a current visa allowing them to stay in Australia for the duration of the short program .
All applicants who meet the selection criteria will be selected for the program based on a first come, first served basis.

Candidates who attend clinical sessions and treat patients will be required to obtain the following documentation. Details of how to obtain this documentation will be provided by the OTC unit if you are accepted into the program. Fees apply.
- Temporary Registration with Dental Board of Victoria to participate in clinical sessions. A registration fee of $165 applies and is paid directly to the Dental Practice Board of Victoria.
- Working with Children Check
- Criminal Records Check (Police Check)

A non-refundable deposit of $150 must accompany applications for the Short Courses. Payment must be made by cash, credit card, cheque or postal note.
