DHSV comment on the third Women’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy

Dental conditions are mentioned in the Women’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy (page 7) under the title Chronic illness and injury: The evidence. It is noted that dental conditions are the second most common cause of hospital admissions in Victoria behind diabetes complications (DHS, 2004-5).

DHSV comment on the Healthy Choices: Draft Food and Drink Guidelines for Victorian Public Hospitals.

Dental Health Services Victoria supports the introduction of Healthy Choices: Draft Food and Drink Guidelines for Victorian Public Hospitals.The Guidelines are a tangible commitment to, and demonstration of, the health-promoting role of hospitals. They reflect community expectations that hospital environments shall encourage, support, demonstrate, enable and promote healthy behaviours.

Comment on National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission Report 

The National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission released its final report in June 2009. The report recommends significant reforms to Australia's healthcare system, including the establishment of a Commonwealth-funded dental scheme, to be known as Denticare. DHSV supports a number of the Commission's recommendations, including the provision of universal dental services, and a greater emphasis on the prevention and early diagnosis of oral disease.

Comment on National Primary Health Care Strategy Discussion Paper

The Australian Government’s Discussion Paper, Towards a National Primary Health Care Strategy, is intended to provide a broad framework and basic information on key issues surrounding primary health care to encourage input to assist in the development of a National Primary Health Care Strategy.

Submission to National Preventative Health Taskforce

In October 2008, the National Preventative Health Taskforce released the Discussion Paper Australia: the healthiest country by 2020, identifying three key priorities. DHSV has responded with recommendations on integrating oral health into the preventative health agenda.

Submission to the Department of Human Services on the Primary Health Care in Victoria Discussion Paper

The Department of Human Services’ release of Primary health care in Victoria – a discussion paper, was intended to promote a comprehensive view for the future of the primary health care system in Victoria for discussion and debate with the Victorian sector and key stakeholders.
