Victorian Pre-Schoolers Oral Health Survey

PRINT PAGE
Background

The Victorian Department of Health and Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) are conducting a survey of the oral health of Victorian children. The survey, known as the Victorian Pre-schoolers Oral Health Survey (VPOHS) will document the oral health status of children attending preschool/kindergarten across Victoria and inform dental health policy and health service program planning.

Aims

The aim of VPOHS is to collect information on the oral health status of Victorian pre-school children (aged 3-5 years) and use this to inform Victorian dental policy and planning for oral health services.

Methods

60 Kindergartens were randomly selected and will be invited to participate in the survey.

Parents/guardians of all children in the selected centres will be approached to take part in the study.

Children will have a dental examination by trained clinical examiners.  In addition to the dental examination, the child's parents/guardians will be asked to complete a questionnaire collecting information on family socio-demographic characteristics, risk factors for oral diseases and oral hygiene behaviours.

Timeframe

The survey will commence in January 2015.

Results are planned for release in the latter part of 2015.
