Engaging hearts to change behaviour: VBHC Congress

Publish date:

Delivering better health outcomes for every Australian was central to the conversations and insights at this year's VBHC congress.

On Thursday 1 and Friday 2 May, the Australian Healthcare & Hospitals Association (AHHA) Value-Based Health Care (VBHC) Congress rolled into Federation Square.

Our CEO Susan McKee had the honour of chairing the VBHC Congress, opening the event alongside the Hon. Mary-Anne Thomas MP.

Their remarks helped set the tone for two days of collaboration, insight and meaningful conversations, all focused on how value-based healthcare can deliver better outcomes for every Australian.

Several DHSV leaders also took part in the congress. Sonia Coleman, our Director of Value-Based Health Care, reflected:

“At this congress, I saw powerful evidence of the work happening across our sector, even in the face of deep structural and cultural challenges. The conversation has clearly moved beyond 'what' and 'why' — it’s now about how we scale this work systemically.

"At DHSV, we’re stepping up to that challenge with commitment and momentum.”

Melanie van Altena, Program Director of the School Dental Program, added:

"There were some great insights relating to data use and the importance of engaging the hearts of clinicians to change behaviour."

She also reflected on the incredible keynote by Associated Professor Hairil Rizal Abdullah, who shared powerful insights of implementing VBHC initiatives in Singapore focusing on outcome measurement to drive value and the many opportunities presented by AI.

We’re proud to be part of a national conversation that puts outcomes and equity at the heart of our health system.
