Honouring the legacy of Sajeev Koshy

The remarkable legacy of a passionate advocate for oral health has been recognised in a posthumous appointment.
The King's Birthday Honours List has posthumously recognised Associate Professor Sajeev Koshy OAM with an appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), in acknowledgement of his significant service to dentistry through leadership and governance.
Sajeev joined DHSV in 2004 as Deputy Head of Endodontics while continuing in his role as Clinical Director of Plenty Valley Community Health and Director of Dental Services at Boort District Health Services. He remained with DHSV until he sadly past away on 21 February 2023.
Sajeev was a vocal advocate for universal dental care dedicating his career to improving access to oral health services for children, regional communities, survivors of torture, Aboriginal people and those affected by bushfires.
Sajeev's lifelong commitment to improving the oral health of vulnerable communities was recognised with multiple awards. In 2008, he received the Australian Dental Association Victoria Branch Dentistry Achievement Award. In 2012, he received the Victorian Multicultural Award for Excellence for his support of postgraduate students. And in 2016, Sajeev was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his outstanding service to public dentistry.
Sajeev's appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia is a fitting and well-deserved tribute to his remarkable legacy.
