Insights from the Gender Equality Commissioner

We recently had the privilege of welcoming the state Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner, Dr Niki Vincent, to RDHM.
On Thursday 3 April, Dental Health Services Victoria had the privilege to host the state Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner, Dr Niki Vincent at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne.
Leaders from across the organisation gathered to hear Dr Vincent share some insightful and sobering statistics about gender equality in Victoria's public health sector. After her presentation, Niki enjoyed a tour of our teaching clinic.
At DHSV, we have made good progress in achieving our gender equality goals. We've reduced our gender pay gap, made flexible working arrangements BAU, created several scholarships to support women into leadership positions, and continued to offer double the mandated family violence leave.
But we have a lot more to do.
Women are still under-represented in leadership positions and over-represented in lower paid positions in the public dental sector. This is the catalyst for us to change the way we recruit, advance and support our staff.
We know that other forms of discrimination, such as race and disability, can impact women and nonbinary people’s experience of gender-based discrimination. Taking an intersectional view is key.
As we begin developing our new Gender Equality Action Plan, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a truly diverse and gender-equal workforce for the future.
Gender Equality is part of our broader Belonging Plan which you can find on our website.
