Are you an overseas trained clinician? DHSV is offering an exciting new scholarship to help refugee dentists to gain registration to work in Australia. We understand the unique challenges faced by oral health professionals transitioning to a new healthcare environment – so we created this scholarship program to help you succeed.

About the scholarship

This Refugee Talent Scholarship program is specifically designed to support overseas trained dentists to navigate the Australian system and undertake the requisite preparatory courses and assessment required to practice dentistry in Australia.

A generous support package of up to $22,000 is available for each recipient of the scholarship. This package covers essential components including:

  • The full cost of the DHSV preparatory exam course (3 – 4 weeks)
  • Expenses associated with both the written and practical ADC exams
  • Initial Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB) registration fee
  • First-year Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration fee
  • Potential travel and accommodation costs (if needed).

Recipients will also receive crucial training and support to enhance their job readiness. This scholarship is tailored to empower participants to successfully complete the ADC exam and to support them to seek employment in the Victorian public oral health sector.

Who should apply for the scholarship?

The Refugee Talent Scholarship is open to overseas trained dentists who fulfil the following eligibility criteria. You:

  1. must be a Victorian resident
  2. currently hold or previously held refugee status
  3. are comfortable to complete an English Language test post DHSV OTC program
  4. are an aspiring Public Oral Health professional
  5. passed Part 1 of ADC exam (reimbursement is available)
  6. are able to travel to Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne for a 3-4 week period
  7. are interested in regional Victoria positions (strongly preferred).
