New spaces, new opportunities for care

Publish date:

Our RDHM nurses recently helped to demonstrate the many benefits of RDHM's new operating theatre.

We’ve officially opened our new fourth operating theatre along with 3 newly renovated existing operating theatres — a major step forward in expanding access to safe, compassionate dental care for Victorians.

These upgraded spaces will allow us to treat an additional 150 to 200 patients each year, reducing our wait times and supporting more children, surgical cases, and patients with special needs.

What this means:

  1. more paediatric procedures
  2. more Surgical procedures
  3. better access for vulnerable patients

“We are the only public dental hospital in Victoria providing general anaesthesia option for general dental care and specialist dental care for suitable day surgery patients including children and adults at a regular basis,” says Dr Krati Garg, Director of Surgery and Oral Medicine.

“This expansion allows us to reach more patients, sooner — especially children and those with special needs.

"And small touches, like Bluey on the screen, can completely change how a child experiences dental care.”

More upgrades are on the way, including improvements to waiting areas to make them more welcoming and child-friendly.

Huge thanks to all the teams involved — from surgery to infrastructure — for making this happen. This is a meaningful win for public dental health in Victoria.
