Our Smiles 4 Miles team ran a competition during Dental Health Week, asking its early childhood services to showcase how they’re promoting good oral health habits.

The team were thrilled to receive a wide range of fantastic entries from right across the state. The variety of entries highlighted just how committed their early childhood services are to ensuring that they are giving kids the best start in life.

The winning entry

Leitchville Preschool was the resounding winner of the competition. They were recognised for their creativity and passion for imparting oral health messages.

The team at Leitchville engaged in a number of activities, including:

  • A ‘brush your teeth’ activity featuring oversized teeth and toothbrushes, and a laminated mouth poster so children could brush away the germs, food and plaque
  • A display illustrating how much sugar is in different types of breakfast cereal
  • The children were read the story of Dr Rabbit Meets Brushalotamus and it was filmed for the preschool parents’ Facebook page

On the final day of Dental Health Week, the Leitchville Preschool celebrated with a ‘Breakfast at Kinder + PJ Day’ where they wrote shopping lists of healthy cereals, toast and spreads and then the children brushed their teeth after they enjoyed a healthy breakfast.

Congratulations to all the participants for finding inventive ways to share the importance of healthy foods, tap water and brushing with their young charges during Dental Health Week.
