Successful series of upskilling courses at RDHM

Publish date:

The year may be winding down, but that hasn’t stopped our team from rolling out a successful round of programs at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne.

We have provided a range of engaging courses aimed at upskilling oral health professionals.

Supervised Clinical Placement Program

The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne recently successfully wrapped up our first return to work, two-week clinical placement program.

The Supervised Clinical Placement Program was aimed at dentists looking to boost their skills and confidence in general dental practice. Participants were exposed to a broad range of presentations with supervisors stepping them through each consultation.

We are proud of the immense success of the program. We are now looking forward to a bigger and better program catering for all oral health clinicians next year!

Rotary Endodontics Workshop

Our one-day Rotary Endodontics Workshop was held on Tuesday 29 November and was presented by Professor Peter Parashos.

The endodonticsprogram included both theory and hands-on training.

Participants were provided with an update on contemporary Endodontic philosophies and treatment concerning electronic apex location, Rotary NiTi root canal instrumentation and obturation techniques.

The Rotary Endodontics Workshop was very successful and we hope to run it again in 2023!

Practical Oral Surgery program

DHSV Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Krati Garg and Seth Delpachitra have developed the Practical Oral Surgery upskilling program for general dentists.

The first part of the program (Tier 1) involved essential learning videos as pre-learning complimented with a day of hands-on practical skills training component involving porcine heads.

Seven clinicians from RDHM’s Primary Care Unit and a clinician from VAHS were selected to undertake the training on Saturday 26th November. It was held in the Melbourne Dental School clinical labs at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne.

Participants were very enthusiastic, motivated, and reported increased confidence in performing and managing more complex extractions.

They will now bring these skills back to their clinical practice and progress to the next level (Tier 2) for two additional days of training early in 2023.

We hope to be able to bring this program to regional areas in the future!
